Hydrography and oceanography
The challenges

Knowledge of the ocean environment is necessary to understand, control and protect this space, and this requires the mapping of our oceans. However, today, more than 80 % of the seabed remains unexplored and less than 5% of nautical charts meet the latest hydrographic standards.

Scientific expertise in oceanography is essential for the responsible exploitation of marine resources and the protection of the environment. This is particularly relevant for France, as it has the second largest maritime domain in the world.
