The Institute (Fondation Méditerranéenne d’Etudes Stratégiques) is a think tank based in Toulon, France, whose main areas of analysis are the South (Southern Europe, Middle East, Africa) and maritime issues.
– to stimulate debate by promoting cross-disciplinarity and exchange;
– to pass on keys to understanding and an ad hoc network to managers and future managers in these fields.
Multidisciplinarity has been the DNA of FMES for almost 35 years. The most diverse profiles come together: military personnel of all ranks, armies and nationalities, industrialists, researchers, students, engineers, start-ups, different cultures…
The FMES institute carries out missions of general interest in education and information through a combination of research and strategic thinking, covering Europe’s southern neighborhood as well as the Black Sea, the Arab-Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and beyond.
Its expertise also covers legal, environmental, economic and security issues specific to the seas and oceans.
As a resource center for the region, the institute supports the defense and dual economy.
More than 2,000 visitors to this unique event, one of the world’s leading international meetings for strategic and policy research. 60 speakers from 14 countries including Morocco, Italy, Spain, Egypt, Greece, Germany, Romania, Djibouti, Turkey, the UK, Tunisia, Israel, Portugal…. represented by researchers, diplomats, journalists, military representatives and leaders of the French and foreign armed forces.
A place of exchange between academic knowledge and operational reality (economic, diplomatic, military or technological).
