ALFA LAVAL’s patented OceanGlide technology delivers on the promise of air-based hull lubrication. Using fluidic oscillators, it generates a uniform layer of air microbubbles across the entire flat bottom surface of a ship. The system produces 240,000 bubbles per second per linear meter, reducing specific drag by up to 75%.

In 2023, the shipping company Odfjell Ship Management partnered with Alfa Laval toinstall a fluidized air hull lubrication system on one of their oil tankers.
Tharsis Sea-River Shipping was the first company to install Alfa Laval OceanGlide in 2020. On the coastal vessel M/V Tharsis, this new FAL technology has achieved fuel savings of up to 10%.
ALFA LAVAL and the NMRI conducted onboard CO2 capture tests using a scrubber.
The company is participating in the Remarccable program, which includes six other partners, with the goal of successfully capturing 30% of CO2 emissions—or 1 metric ton of CO2—hour from a ship in operational mode, store it on board, and deliver it ashore for reuse. Additionally, the goal is to reduce the cost of such a system to below 150 euros per metric ton of captured CO2.
