Naval Group signs a contract with Sweden for the delivery of four defence and intervention frigates (FDI)

On 31 August 2026, in the presence of Emmanuel Macron and Ulf Kristersson, the FMV and Naval Group signed in Stockholm the contract for the procurement of four defence and intervention frigates (FDI) for the Royal Swedish Navy. This signing comes less than four months after Sweden announced its selection of the FDI, following exclusive negotiations conducted with the support of the French Government.

Naval Group thus becomes Sweden’s strategic partner to rapidly modernise its fleet, with the first delivery scheduled for 2030.

Pierre Éric Pommellet, Chairman and CEO of Naval Group, welcomed this agreement: “It is an honour to put our expertise at the service of the Swedish Royal Navy’s sovereignty. Naval Group is fully committed to the delivery of this major project.”

FDI, an operational and combat-ready frigate

A state-of-the-art frigate equipped with the ASTER anti-air system, the FDI is designed to counter threats in the High North, the Baltic Sea, or the North Atlantic, thereby supporting Sweden’s role within NATO.
