GICAN welcomes the appointment of Ms Valérie Delacour and Mr Jean-Marie Dumon to the Order of Maritime Merit by decree of 29 December 2025, an honour bestowed upon women and men whose commitment contributes to the long-term influence and vitality of the French maritime sector.
Ms Valérie Delacour has been appointed Knight.
She entered the naval industry in 1990 at the Shipbuilding Research Institute, then joined the Shipbuilders’ Trade Association before continuing her involvement with GICAN since its creation. For more than 35 years, she has consistently and professionally supported the development of the professional organisation, serving both teams and manufacturers. Through her availability, rigour and in-depth knowledge of the industry, she embodies a valuable continuity and is a recognised reference point for all.
Mr Jean-Marie Dumon has been appointed Officer.
A graduate of the Naval Academy (class of 1984), he has built a remarkable career within the French Navy, alternating between operational responsibilities at sea and high-level strategic functions. In particular, he has participated in major operations, commanded several ships, and contributed to the transformation of the French Navy, maritime security and the monitoring of naval programmes. He is currently Deputy General Delegate and Defence & Security Delegate of GICAN.

By honouring both a professional whose loyalty and sense of service have accompanied the organisation for decades and a former general officer who has become a key player in the defence-industry dialogue, the Order of Maritime Merit also recognises a collective ability to bring the sector to life, represent it, unite it and defend its strategic interests.
