OceanWings receives DNV Type Approval Design Certificate for its rigid and tiltable wingsails

On 17 September 2025, OceanWings announced that it has received a Type Approval Design Certificate (TADC) from DNV, marking a major milestone in the industrial validation of its automated wingsail propulsion system. The certification confirms that the OceanWings design, in both tiltable and fixed configurations, complies with the strictest technical and regulatory standards. It paves the way for easier integration on commercial vessels by reducing technical risks and streamlining class approvals.

Key benefits of the TADC include:
– building confidence among shipowners, shipyards and flag states,
– confirming the solution’s “ready-now” availability,
– supporting compliance with IMO’s MEPC 83/84, FuelEU Maritime, and the upcoming Global Fuel Standard (GFS).

Emmanuel Schalit, CEO of OceanWings, stated: “Receiving this TADC during London International Shipping Week is the perfect timing. Shipowners need to trust that they can safely operate our systems at sea in all conditions. This recognition, coming from our joint work with DNV, makes us ready for any market acceleration following the IMO GFS vote in October.”

Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, COO DNV Maritime, added:
With the award of this TADC we are sending the clearest signal yet to the industry: OceanWings is ready to go – with a streamlined class approval process and documentation requirements.
